How To Turn Off Rtt On Iphone
-
I know this wasn't always there before. I now have "Answer as RTT call" as the first option in the line of choices that appear when I get an incoming call. Then "screen call", etc. Is there a way to turn this option off? I don't have this turned on in my settings.
I will add this interesting fact - I happen to work with Deaf people and I'm fluent in ASL. This would be the ultimate "Google is secretly recording you" accusation. Google thought this was relevant to me so it insists I have the option readily available.
Or was it there? Do you have it?

The RTT option is enabled if the caller has RTT enabled. You can't "defeat" that.

That makes sense. I guess it doesn't make sense to have this turned on by default. I tested with two iPhones calling me. Neither hearing user knew what RTT was (including one whose wife is Deaf) so I have to assume they probably didn't turn it on (or off).
I'm now curious about RTT. I did try it. I don't think any of my Deaf friends/colleagues use it. We text (they iMessage). Facetime. It might be a hearing person thing.

Great. Now we know what it is. How do I disable it from showing when a call comes into my phone. I don't want to see it. The other two options are more important to me and now I have to scroll over to reply with a text. Absurd. Crappy design people. Please give us settings control of our phones.

See the support page: https://support.google.com/accessibi.../9042284?hl=en. As Rukbat mentioned, it has to do with the caller's RTT setting, not yours. If you had the power to block or deny an RTT call, then you'd be limiting the ability of a hearing-impaired person to communicate with you.
I'm not sure how that option is a burden on the user. The normal way of answering a call is to swipe up. In order to answer as an RTT call, you'd have to specifically tap that button. Presumably, if you know that the person is hearing-impaired, that's what you'd do to communicate effectively.
EDIT: Upon re-reading the reply, I see the issue is with having to scroll over to reply with a text. But RTT is essentially calling via text, so you can use that instead of a text message.

I will explain the annoyance one more time. When a call comes in I now have three choices on my screen. RTT, screen, and reply with text. I use reply with text frequently. The RTT is an annoyance and a hindrance to easily using a feature that is far more important to me. I should be able to show which of these I want to see and if I'm forced to see them all then how about allowing me to choose the order in which they display? I hope this makes more sense to you. this is not an attack on people who need to call via RTT. I just believe that since it's my phone I should be able to have feature show and not show based on my personal preferences. That may sound crazy to some people. :-)

I also like the quick replies of the text feature. I don't want to actually have to answer the call and then speak and have it translate to text. Keep it simple.

Ok, I see what you're saying. The best i can suggest is to send feedback to Google about it, and perhaps suggest a reorganization of what order those options appear in.
Just curious -- to you see the RTT option appear frequently, or just every now and then?

The problem with rtt on is that it impedes navigating many touchtone menus, which is how large businesses answer & call these days, not just banks.
So now, unless a live person answers one is screwed.
If Android is going to foist this on people, it should come with a disable floating button...03-17-2020 02:03 PM

Dear everyone suffering from RTT-
Google support is USELESS and has locked all threads on RTT. Samsung support does not even know the menus in their phones.
Apparently, via this thread and other forums, if your caller has RTT on, you get it automatically (unconfirmed).
My Galaxy S10+ has NO off switch for RTT. The default dialer via Verizon/Samsung took a UI dive recently.
I installed the Google dialer and the UI was better, but RTT was on EVERY call.
I had to get RID of it, and finally, I found ACR Phone Dialer in the Google Play Store:
Highly recommend.
